ICON has advised Octopai, the automated data lineage, catalogue and discovery solution on the acquisition of its platform by Cloudera, the leading hybrid platform for data, analytics, and AI.

Founded in 2016 and based in Israel, Octopai transformed the metadata management landscape by leveraging automated data mapping and knowledge graphs to enrich and activate metadata to deliver insights into the data landscape. This, coupled with an intuitive experience and AI copilots, accelerates the use of high-quality data for analytic and AI outcomes.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, Cloudera is a portfolio company of KKR and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. With 100x more data under management than other cloud-only vendors, Cloudera empowers global enterprises to transform data of all types, on any public or private cloud, into valuable, trusted insights.

Octopai’s automated solutions for data lineage, data discovery, data catalogue, mapping, and impact analysis across complex data environments complement Cloudera’s modern data architecture strategy.

With the built-in metadata management and multi-dimensional data lineage from Octopai, Cloudera customers can now get visibility across a myriad of data solutions so they can fuel their AI, predictive analytics, and other decision-making tools with trusted data.

Yael Ben Arie, CEO of Octopai, said: “Cloudera and Octopai represent a perfect symbiosis by bringing together centralised data and metadata management. By combining Octopai's metadata capabilities with Cloudera's comprehensive data, analytics, and AI platform, we're addressing the critical challenge of understanding and governing data across multi-cloud and on-premises environments.”

“This acquisition will establish the Octopai data lineage and catalogue platform as the standard for metadata management while accelerating Cloudera’s mission of preparing customers for the AI era. We’re excited to bring enterprise-grade data lineage and metadata management to organisations at an unprecedented scale.”

ICON Director Ben Kolada added: “Octopai’s data lineage platform is a natural fit with Cloudera’s extensive hybrid data platform. My team and I at ICON are pleased to have been part of this journey. We’re also proud to announce yet another transaction in AI & DataTech this year, following the sale of data governance platform provider Zeenea to HCLSoftware just a few months ago.”

This transaction, together with the Zeenea deal earlier this year, bolsters ICON’s extensive track record in AI & DataTech, having also advised data transformation company VaultSpeed on its funding round from Octopus Ventures, AI automation startup ForePaaS on its sale to OVHcloud, data automation pioneer TimeXtender taking growth equity from Monterro, and weather analytics provider Fathom Global on its strategic investment from Moody’s.
